Self-referral

You do not need a referral to see a Psychologist if you are a full fee paying client. In this instance, there is no limit to the number of sessions you may have as a private client, however, Medicare rebates are not available. Should you want to claim Medicare Rebates, a referral will be required from your GP.

For clients with private health insurance, please check with your health fund as they may offer rebates for Psychological Services under ‘Extras’. Your fund may require you to have a referral to access these rebates. It is advisable to check with your fund prior to making an appointment with us.

Medicare

A referral with a Mental Health Care Plan entitles you to a Medicare rebate for up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year. This plan is completed by your GP and allows you to an initial 6 individual sessions of Psychological treatment with Medicare rebates. A review is then required where your GP determines whether you receive another 4 sessions of individual psychological treatment (i.e. total of 10 sessions per calendar year).

It is your GP who determines your eligibility for this plan. You may need to arrange a long consultation with your GP to discuss this. We recommend you advise your GP’s receptionist of the purpose for your appointment at the time of booking.

Sessions are charged at the standard consultation rate. Full payment of the standard session fee is required at the end of each session by cash or card. A receipt will be issued upon payment that you can use for any eligible claim.

Private Health Insurance

Rebates are available with most private health insurers. The rebate dollar amount varies between providers and is generally for a limited number of sessions. We recommend you contact your insurer to check your level of cover and the rebate. Full payment of the standard session fee is required at the end of each session by cash or card. A receipt will be issued upon payment that you can use for any eligible claim.

WorkCover

If you have been injured at work or in the course of carrying out your work, you may require the services of a Psychologist as part of your recovery.

In Queensland, WorkCover may refer you to a Psychologist once your claim has been approved. These sessions are time-limited and the number of sessions is determined by WorkCover after assessing your claim. Successful claims will result in the cost of your sessions being covered by WorkCover.

WorkCover will only pay for approved sessions with a Psychologist, so you must ensure this is in place prior to making an appointment with us.
